Playscape Rendering (12/11/11)
With 7,000 square feet of green space available to the school, OCP has a thrilling opportunity to build a natural playscape that will allow us to execute our curriculum to the fullest extent. A local landscape architect who specializes in natural playscapes designed and prepared a master landscaping plan (see rendering below as viewed from Feld Avenue). The overall plan will be implemented in phases and will include: tree stumps for sitting, vegetable gardens and a composting area, a path for riding tricycles, a dry creek bed fed by harvested rain water stored in a series of rain barrels, a sand pit, a music garden, an art wall, an outdoor theater, slides and tunnels built into hills, and tree trunks for climbing. These elements are intended to encourage children to interact with natural elements so as to foster cognitive, social, physical and emotional stimulation beyond traditional playground equipment.
